Dohe

Dohas are 2 line poems that are each complete in themselves. There is profound wisdom hidden in each doha and they reflect the poet's way of expressing the most profound thoughts in the simplest words.

1. Aisee vani boliye, mun ka aapa khoye
apna tan sheetal kare, auran ko sukh hoye
Meaning : Speak such words that sans ones ego and the body remains composed, giving the listener joy

2. Bada hua to kya hua, jaise ped khajoor
panthi ko chaya nahin, phal laage atidoor
Meaning : In vain is the eminence, just like a date tree that cannot provide shade for travelers, and its fruits are hard to reach

3. Dukh mein sumiran sab kare, sukh mein kare na koye
jo sukh mein sumiran kare, to dukh kaahe ko hoye
Meaning : In anguish everyone prays to him, in joy does none to one who prays in happiness, how sorrow can come

4. Jaise til mein tel hai, jyo chakmak mein aag
tera sayeen tujh mein hai, tu jaag sake to jaag
Meaning : Like til seed contains the oil and fire in flint stone, your temple seats the Divine, realize if you can

5. Rahiman dhaaga prem ka, mut todo chatkaaye
toote se fir na mile , mile gaant pad jaye
Meaning : Be careful in your relations, once it is ruined it cannot be fixed. Just like if a thread breaks u cannot join it even if it is joined there will be a knot

6. Bade badhai na kare, bado na bole bol
Rahiman hira kab kahe, lakh taka mera mol
Meaning : Great men do not boast about their greatness just like a diamond wont tell that its cost is 1 lakh

7. Tulsi barose ram ke, nirbhay ho ke soye
anhoni honi nahi, honi ho so hoi
Meaning : Trust God, whatever must happen will happen.

8. Bigadi baath banai nahi, lakh karo kin koi
rahiman bigade dooth ko, mathe na makan hoi
Meaning : Something gone wrong in relations cannot be made right, just like butter cannot be extracted from broken milk
